I have heard a lot about replacing Columbus Day with Native Peoples Day because Columbus was kind of jerk and the first Europeans to come to the New World were Vikings. Dispite these two groups disagreement about what the public holiday on the second Monday in October should be, they agree that there isba holiday on the second Monday in October. Unforntually I forgot this and subwayed over to the Westgate Mall on West Nanjing Road in Shanghi to drop off my absentee ballot, since the US Government will diplomatic mail it back to your state or county election officials for free only to learn that the US Consulate General is closed. I am going to blame this on Juniata, since they can't do anything to me for the next year, for not having Columbus Day casusing me to forget it is a thing and the President because why not? I am not blameing this on me forgetting to check the Consulate General's website where they said they will be closed October 10th for Columbus Day. As petty revenge for the US Government not meeting my every whim I bought Nestle's brand of water instead of Coke's so that my 2RMB will go to Switzerland, not Georgia. On the bright side, East Nanjing Road is a nice part of Shanghai and the walk was fun. I guess it is a good thing for anyone with buisness with the United States in China to note that early to mid October might not be the best time to do it, between the Chinese Public and the US Federal holidays. Hopefully I will do a voting post tomorrow, as long as I can actually vote.
Note: I feel like I need to mention that this post is meant to be sarcastic. I know that does not always come through in text form so someone, some day, might take it as more serious than I intended it to be. So to that one guy, here is your FYI.

I have heard form a reliable source on campus, aka my friend Katherine, that today is Mountain Day. So have a happy Mountain Day all, whereever you may be. And remeber, tomorrow is always Mountain Day.
Edit: I just relized, ECNU is located on 中山北路, which means North Center Mountain Road in Chinese. So am I already in the mountains? Edit 2: I just got a text from JCPS telling me its Mountain Day. Now it is super official. Edit 3: Is Mountain Day abroad like a Jewish Holiday in that I have to do two days of Mountain Day to make sure my Mountain Day and the Mountain Day at Juniata overlap? So apparently it is Alumni Day at East China Normal. No one told the internations though, I just started taking my morning walk and found I was the youngest person on campus by about 30 years; I only learned this from my friend Yuxue, who is a full time student at ECNU, when I asked her on WeChat. I don't really know what the alumns were doing, they seemed to be going from place to place taking pictures, waving ECNU flags, and getting samps in ECNU passport things. To be honest, I like Juniata's Family and Alumni Week more, the College gives the students somehing to do douring Family and Alumni Week to do as opposed to East China Normal where they wait until all the students are off campus before doing their Alumni Day.
